Yay Good Samaritans

So I had a shift today in Lake City and figured with all the sand on the road that I’d at least be able to make it to the freeway. But ended up in a drift on the side of the road instead.  There were three guys that came at different times, one tried to push the other tried to find a way to hook up a rope under my car, but no such luck.  And evidentally I have towing services through All State, but when I tried to call my insurance company they said they were having technical difficulties and weren’t able to contact any towing services.  So after sitting on the side of the road for 20 minutes, another guy came by and offered to help dig me out.  He tried pushing too, but my car is of course difficult.  Thankfully two other guys came to help too and they managed to lift the front of my car and I reversed out.  And after a shakey drive home, I’m safe and sound back inside away from the snow.

Can You Ever Win With Ethics?

Filed under: Random Ramblings — croakingcricket @ 11:07 pm

I was watching Private Practice, pretty much because I had started watching The Office and got sucked into tv land…all the more reason to stick with watching shows online, but the episode I was watching had me thinking.

One of the patients of the doctor’s was 14 years old and starting talking to the doctor saying that he was thinking about having sex with his girl friend.  The doctor of course gave the condom speech and also tried to throw in a thread about if it’s really love he could wait.  The kid though of course, with hormones and girls on his mind pretty much flat out said that he wasn’t going to wait.  Which of course wouldn’t be that major of a deal since doctors can’t control what their patients do, just offer suggestions.  But the twist of the plot was that the kid was HIV positive…but the parents didn’t want him to know.  And even after the doctor had tried to talk to the kid’s parents to lift the ban they had insisted on, they figured they knew their son and KNEW that he wasn’t ready to have sex.

So as a doctor to minors, I guess the ethical thing was that the doctor had to follow what the parents said and not tell the kid anything.  But would you really want you patient to have sex with someone not knowing that he could kill her by just having sex?

Get Your Bolly Move On

I was brave enough to try Indian food tonight.  My friend Melinda is vegetarian and so in some places there’s not a lot of choices for her.  So I told her to choose and when she picked Indian food, I sucked it in and said ok.  When it came to ordering though, I told her and her friend Vijay who is Indian, to just order food and I’d try it.  Some of the appetizers, not so great.  But I think what I ended up with was some version of chicken curry and I had rice and tortillas of sorts.  All around pretty good.

And of course Melinda randomly treated us to her dancing skills to the techno music in the place and sometimes just made up her own beat that had something like ‘spaghetti fingers’ and ‘the system’s down, the system’s down’ every once in a while.  Lol, all around a definite kick.  We also bonded over various movies and TV shows like Phineas & Pherb, which I watched cause she loved it so much.  Of course now I too agree that Phineas and Pherb are hilarious even if kids think it’s made for them.
